Wrath & Anger of God

Wrath and Anger

When God shows anger or wrath, it is also not a reflection of His nature, but rather a means to achieve His ultimate purpose. While some may say anger is simply a response to evil, God's wrath is often part of a divine
plan. In the case of Genesis 6:3, God’s anger was not primarily a response to evil but a way to set a timeline for His plan. In Romans 9:11-13, God demonstrates His sovereign choice, loving Jacob and hating Esau, not because of any wrong or right, but to ensure His purpose of salvation through Jacob’s lineage. This shows that God’s anger is a means to achieve His will, rather than an emotional response to human actions. We must learn to see beyond the methods (God’s ways) to understand the ultimate purpose (God’s goal). Whether God’s actions involve anger, love, or mercy, these are not ends in themselves but are ways to fulfill His divine purpose. When God allows suffering, it is not out of hatred but as a means to achieve something greater, often beyond our immediate understanding.

In Colossians 2:14, the death of Jesus on the cross was a costly action that fulfilled God's purpose of redeeming humanity. Similarly, God’s use of methods that may seem painful or difficult, like the crucifixion, serves to accomplish His overarching purpose of salvation. Just as He did not withhold His Son’s suffering for a greater purpose, He may allow pain or hardship to fulfill His will in our lives.
